Review:
This book absolutely blew me away, and solidified this series into my top 5. I knew pretty much only one thing heading into this series…. smut…oh.. and that everyone who has read it is OBSESSED. So I thought why not. The first book almost left a bad taste in my mouth because of the abusive relationship and almost stockholm syndrome type feel. The smut they are referring to in the beginning of the series is dirty, greedy, abusive, and just all together not the smut that readers want in a romantic relationship. I was worried Midas was going to be vindicated throughout this story and somehow they would end up together. By the time Book 1 was done I figured out that was not the case. Book 2 swept me away and let me tell you RIP?!?!?!?!? Book boyfriend numero uno! But now getting to Gleam..
Now, in Gleam, Auren is trying to make peace with choosing to leave Midas and try to move past his utter betrayal, reconciling her feelings for someone she has only known as the enemy for so long, and trying to piece back together her own identity. It is a whirlwind of emotions that cut straight to the heart. Gleam is everything you could ask for. Gut-wrenching betrayals, heart-breaking moments, and redeeming and all consuming love. I do not want to give anything away… but there is so much more to this series. Book 3 is a slow burn, breath-taking journey that I wish I could read for the first time all over again. I had so many pre- conceived notions from other peoples opinions and descriptions of it… but I am glad I took the chance on this series because it an absolute masterpiece.
The series is so much more than I was led to believe. It shows the consequences of greed. How greed can consume the person so wholly that they destroy everything around them in the process. It shows what a real leader is supposed to be like. How a man with unimaginable power chooses a different path and is kind and caring. It’s redemption and finding out who you really are. It shows that you do have the strength and the power to change your situation.
I really can not recommend this series enough.
